COUNTRY COLOURS
I'm driving home as dusk is falls
The colours are mauve, grey and brown
Outlines and shadows create monsters
As I make my way back towards town.
Leaves flutter soundlessly downward
Their colours are yellow, brown, red
They cover the road and the paddocks and hills
In the glades through which I have sped
With darkness now falling the headlights come on
The colours are white, yellow, gold
Trucks, cars and vans form a great snake of light
Such a magical sight to behold.
Now blackness has come, definition supreme
The colours have merged into black
Headlights search out the way turning night into day
But the colours will never come back
The colours are mauve, grey and brown
Outlines and shadows create monsters
As I make my way back towards town.
Leaves flutter soundlessly downward
Their colours are yellow, brown, red
They cover the road and the paddocks and hills
In the glades through which I have sped
With darkness now falling the headlights come on
The colours are white, yellow, gold
Trucks, cars and vans form a great snake of light
Such a magical sight to behold.
Now blackness has come, definition supreme
The colours have merged into black
Headlights search out the way turning night into day
But the colours will never come back
